HAPPY CHARDONNAY DAY
One of my oldest school friends was given the nickname Wadz in high school.
Armed with a rather large diff he waddles a bit like a duck, weighing in at a hefty 135kg. When the gangster rap kicks off at a 40th it’s like having a wrecking ball on the dance floor. Essentially a fuel tank for beer, brandy and wine in human form.
After undergoing a health assessment, Discovery politely advised he was uninsurable so major concessions were made to downsize his weekly intake of brandy and wine.
Prior to these big sacrifices his go to phrase would be…’IF YOU WANNA go hard drink BTC (Beneath the Clouds) Chard!’
As a cultured wine consumer, I was obviously appalled! But the phrase cottoned on in our friendship circle and became somewhat of a mantra at salubrious events.
So, on this fine Thursday after surviving the first Cape winter storm, twist open a bottle of BTC to celebrate International Chardonnay Day. Since it’s a school night we’ll forgive you for abandoning the mantra on this occasion.
Hot off the press and happy to report that our Oak Valley Groenlandberg Chardonnay was awarded Gold (95 points) by the International Wine Challenge (IWC) yesterday. One of only 23 Gold medals for SA.
