AT THE TABLE, IT’S SUNDAY EVERY DAY
For many of us, Sunday lunch is more than just a meal – it’s a ritual, a time to slow down, gather around the table and connect on a deeper level with family and friends.
The Table has always been owned by families. Brendan and Leigh Thorncroft are the third caretakers of a truly inspirational place. Both trained as chefs; Brendan worked under chef George Jardine for many years and Leigh started out in product development.
At The Table, Brendan runs the kitchen and Leigh manages front of house.
Both grew up in homes where food and entertaining were celebrated. Brendan’s family are excellent home cooks while Leigh grew up on a game lodge in the Limpopo Lowveld, where family hospitality and good service were the order of the day. At their core is the belief that each ingredient should tell a story, that knowing where your food comes from makes the experience more meaningful. This is why when you dine at The Table you’re told the story of the ingredients and where it is farmed.
Over the past year, Brendan and Leigh have been working tirelessly behind the scenes writing a recipe book. They have showcased each season’s produce and developed recipes that highlight when each ingredient is at its peak – just like the menu at The Table.
Together with the talented stylists and photographers, Roxy Spears, Claire Gunn and Lynda Ingham-Brown, a truly beautiful book has been created.
