Double Spoils With Platter & Eat Out Awards

Our Oak Valley Groenlandberg Chardonnay was awarded it’s 6th consecutive Platter 5 star while The Melting Pot achieved Top 50 status in the 2023 Eat Out Awards on Sunday. It’s been quite a week.
I asked Winemaker Jacques for a note on our Groenlandberg Chardonnay 2022, he wrote…

“The 2021 and 2022 seasons were opposites, the former being one of the coolest and latter one of the warmest in the last decade.

Tasting the two wines side-by-side reflects these differences. The 2021 had a cool and cloudy ripening period, initially shy on the nose and then opening up to delicate floral notes, green and yellow citrus.

The 2022 is serious from the first sip, it jumps from the glass showing riper yellow citrus, tangerine and even some tangy peach. The palate is textured and very dense with brilliant fruit intensity.

Both wines are dry, have great natural acidity and typical Elgin flintiness. It’s hard to say which will age best, my gutfeel is the 2021 will reveal more with age. But in a time when the average wine drinker prefers younger whites, this may be a good thing for the 2022 vintage.”

After months in the making, last Friday the Timeout Market launched into the Cape Town food scene, joining the likes of Timeout Lisbon, NYC, Boston, Montreal, Chicago and Dubai.

The Melting Pot was invited to join 13 of Cape Town’s best Chefs and is now a fixture at the market, offering a delicious seafood menu that includes Peruvian ceviche, John’s famous squid roll, fried fish tacos and salmon gravlax.

It’s well worth a visit. The wine selection at Culture bar (also featuring at Timeout) is excellent, which isn’t surprising given they recently won the Star Wine List Awards for Best Overall List in SA.

With summer finally upon us, it’s time to adventure out to Elgin for a long festive lunch or picnic under our oaks. The food is spectacular, and the wines, well…we know how Platter feels (for the 6th consecutive time)!
Take care,
